Take Your Kids on a Food Safari!

The annual Cheeky Monkey Food Safari event at Chequamegon Food Co-op gives kids the opportunity to try new foods. Through a fun and engaging program, kids will explore unusual fruits, vegetables, and other foods, along with some of their favorites. The Food Safari, a free event that is open to the public, will be held Saturday, January 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Chequamegon Food Co-op, 700 Main Street West in Ashland, Wis.

As they enter the Co-op, children will be given a map that shows how to find their way through the “jungle” as they search for new foods. Throughout the store, tasting stations will be set up with a variety of foods for the kids to taste. The map includes a list of samples, so kids can note their likes and dislikes. There will also be information about each food on hand to help parents and kids alike learn more about the foods. Upon completing their safari, children will receive a free goodie bag to take home.

This year’s event is sponsored in part by Nancy’s Yogurt, a product of Springfield Creamery of Eugene, Ore. The company has provided activity sheets for kids and its products will be among those sampled at the tasting.
