Co-op Leadership Changes

The change in seasons brings with it a change in leadership here at Chequamegon Food Co-op. Meagan Van Beest has resigned her positions as general co-manager and marketing & member services manager. She will be leaving the Co-op at the end of this week. Meagan will move to the Twin Cities for a new job and to be closer to family. She notes that it has been a great privilege and joy to work with the staff and community over the last seven years. One of the highlights was collaborating with everyone on the expansion in 2014 to broaden the reach of the Co-op in the Chequamegon Bay area. We will certainly miss Meagan’s marketing and community-building skills (along with her ability to write in third person).

Succession

As with when Vicki left, the Co-op has a succession plan to handle this type of change in leadership. Fortunately, we have more than one general manager, so the transition should go smoothly when it comes to store operations. The remaining general co-manager Kiersten Galazen will take over interim general manager duties while the board of directors pursues a permanent general manager to fill the role. A new marketing & member services manager has been hired to fill that staff position.

Hiring a new GM

The Board will begin the hiring process for a permanent general manager over the next few weeks. They will be discussing next steps at their upcoming board meeting. The Board will definitely keep the membership informed of the process as we move ahead. If you have any questions about this transition, we encourage you to attend the Board of Directors meeting on Thursday, September 12, 2019. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the Community Room at the Co-op.
